Born on June 19, 1970, at Holy Family Hospital in Delhi, Rahul Rajiv Gandhi is deeply rooted in India's political history, being the son of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi, the grandson of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, and the great-grandson of India's inaugural Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.

His early education began at St. Columba's School in New Delhi, followed by The Doon School in Dehradun from 1981 to 1983. Due to heightened security concerns following the assassinations of his grandmother, Indira Gandhi, in 1984, and his father, Rajiv Gandhi, in 1991, Rahul Gandhi, along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, was homeschooled for a period. He commenced his undergraduate studies at St. Stephen's College, Delhi, before moving to Harvard University. He later transferred to Rollins College in Florida, completing his Bachelor's degree in 1994, and subsequently earned an M.Phil. in Development Studies from Trinity College, Cambridge, in 1995.

After his academic pursuits, Gandhi began his professional career with the Monitor Group, a management consulting firm in London, and later established a technology outsourcing firm in Mumbai. His formal entry into active politics came in March 2004 when he contested and won the Lok Sabha seat from Amethi, Uttar Pradesh, a constituency previously held by his father and mother. This move marked the beginning of his journey to address divisive politics and uphold unity.

Within the Congress party, Gandhi's ascent saw him appointed as General Secretary of the Indian Youth Congress (IYC) and the National Students Union of India (NSUI) in September 2007. He played a significant role in reforming these youth wings, aiming to democratize the organizations and encourage new leadership, which led to a substantial increase in membership. In January 2013, he became the Vice-President of the Indian National Congress, effectively becoming the party's second-in-command. He then served as the party president from December 2017 to July 2019.

In a strategic move to reinvigorate the party and address national issues, Gandhi spearheaded the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' (Unite India March) from September 2022 to January 2023. This monumental 4,080-kilometer foot march from Kanyakumari to Kashmir focused on themes of economic development, social justice, and inclusive governance, aiming to counter what the party termed 'divisive politics.' The yatra was considered a success, with millions participating and state units organizing similar marches.

Building on this momentum, he launched the 'Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra' (Unite India for Justice March) from January to March 2024, traversing from Manipur to Mumbai. This hybrid yatra, covering over 6,700 kilometers, aimed to highlight social, economic, and political injustices, including unemployment, inflation, and the rich-poor divide, engaging with various communities across 14 states and 85 districts.

A notable challenge in his recent political career occurred in March 2023 when he was convicted of defamation and sentenced to two years' imprisonment, leading to his disqualification as a Member of Parliament from Wayanad. However, the Supreme Court of India stayed his conviction in August 2023, paving the way for his reinstatement as an MP.

Following the 2024 general elections, where the Congress-led INDIA bloc significantly improved its performance, Rahul Gandhi was officially nominated as the 12th Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha in June 2024. He retained his Rae Bareli seat, previously held by his mother, while vacating Wayanad.
