Nara Lokesh Decries North-South Divide Amid Delimitation Bill Setback

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national general secretary Nara Lokesh has voiced significant concerns over the recent defeat of the delimitation bill, asserting that it creates an "unfair north-south divide" and negatively impacts southern states. Speaking at an interaction during 'The Hindu Mind' event, Lokesh emphasized that the bill's failure disproportionately affects regions like Andhra Pradesh, potentially limiting their representation in the Lok Sabha.

Lokesh argued that delimitation, based on population, is a crucial mechanism for ensuring equitable representation. The postponement or defeat of such a bill, he stated, can lead to a scenario where states with stable or declining populations see their parliamentary seats reduced over time, while rapidly growing states gain more. This, he believes, is inherently unfair and risks marginalizing the voice of southern India.

Furthermore, the TDP leader underscored the importance of youth representation in political bodies. He stated that political parties often fail to nominate young candidates, especially in general elections, despite the significant demographic of young voters. This lack of inclusion, Lokesh contends, prevents fresh perspectives and innovative ideas from entering the legislative process, hindering the country's progress.

During the wide-ranging conversation, Nara Lokesh also offered insights into his vision for Andhra Pradesh's economic revival. He touched upon the contentious issue of Amaravati, reiterating his party's commitment to its development as the state capital. The discussion also delved into other developmental and political issues facing Andhra Pradesh and the nation.
